One thing is for sure, when you’re out Eid shopping, the best deals are not at your cool desi retail stores like Sheep, Ego, Daaman and Fnk Asia, but at the more older haunts like Generation and Cynosure.
While the list of former stores have changed the way we perceive ready-to-wear these days, and are a strong reflection of how women have come to dress in recent times, that is no dupattas and one pair of lowers paired with a motley of kameezes, they cannot truly design for an event like …

At The Designer’s pre-eid launch, one observed how cleverly retailer Asad Tareen brought in names like Sadaf Malaterre, Adnan Pardesy, Mohsin Ali and Akif Mahmood, who have wowed us on the ramp but left us skeptical of when they retail.
To Tareen’s credit, he managed to get the best of what these names could contribute retail-wise. Even someone like Sadaf Malaterre, who had refused to go down the shalwar kameez route, managed to create a few garments in crushed fabric with her characteristic minimal bead embellishment for the bohemians to connote …

The Lux Style Awards (LSA) is arguably the single most distinguished awards forum in the country. It may not be the most perfect answer to the highly stylized and extravagant award shows across the border, like the Filmfare awards, but it is undoubtedly an event which gave birth to the ‘red carpet’ phenomena in Pakistan.
While the event has certainly trickled down from its grand inception in Dubai in 2002 – and an even majestic continuation in Malaysia in 2006, where a bevy of Indian celebrities also graced the occasion …

Famous for the variety of entertainment CDs and DVDs it offers, Karachi’s Rainbow Center turns into a whole new place with the onset of Ramadan. There’s no sight of posters of “Razia Phans Gayi” or “Sheila Ki Jawani” and no demand for music. When customers are less interested in films and music, the retailers know how to keep their business running in an otherwise stagnant period for entertainment in Pakistan.
With the first day of Ramadan, posters of Amir Liaquat and Owais Qadri’s naat albums replace those of Bollywood and famous …

Among the many themes to ponder at the Believer’s Paradise exhibition that has opened at Koel Gallery is the developing relation of the self to its surrounding, which in many cases can be a contemporary Hell.
For the show, curator Syed Faraz Ali brought together the works of three Thai artists: Panuwat Sitheechoke, Kriangkrai Konghanun and Arthit Amornchorn. But be prepared because Sitheechoke and Konghanun’s will be disturbingly familiar as they have dredged up the darkness of the human soul.
Delicately etched but faceless heads run throughout Sitheechoke’s frightening work that has …

When Ramadan arrives during the monsoon season, the last thing on anyone’s mind is to sweat excessively. Strenuous activity is avoided and sloth seeps in our lives. As a result, those who are fasting try to tone down activity to a bare minimum to avoid depleting sugar levels or dehydration and overall lethargy during the daytime.
“We call this ‘lazy weather’,” says Zarak Khan, owner of Zarak’s Gym in Islamabad, an establishment he’s been running for the past six months. “Business does slow down a little during Ramadan. A lot of …
