Aaghaaz

This Sunil Shetty vehicle is a remake of a Telugu hit film called Sivaiyya. And that’s probably about the only interesting facet to the whole production…

IT’s three hours of the same old story of love and war centered in the suburbs of Mumbai with Govind (Shetty) and his sister. He’s in love with model turned actress Suman Ranganathan but is forced to marry former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen. Choices, choices. What’s a man to do?

Sharad Kapoor (fresh from his success in Josh) plays Shetty’s brother-in-law and tries to poison Suman, who is pregnant with another man’s child. To cut an (extremely) long story short, someone dies, someone is raped, and somebody is killed. Run of the mill stuff that Bollywood tries desperately to shy away from, but, more often than not, has the tendency to fall back into. Aaghaaz is based on the very tried (and over-tested) formula that has gone before us time and time again.

Sushmita shines as always but everything else, including Anu Malik’s music is predictable. Sunil Shetty seems to be opting for two bad roles for every good one, and needs to think long and hard before accepting any role that comes his way.

Survival at the box office never looked hopeful but things look pretty bleak for Mr. Shetty too.
