She proved she was her father’s daughter by playing the sitar and winning acclaim. She then went a step further and wrote a book about him, which was appreciated by audience and critics alike. Now, the energetic and enthusiastic Anoushka Shankar is all set to star in a film titled Dance Like A Man by Kolkata born director Pamela Rook. This is a screen adaptation of a play by Mahesh Dattani. The flick also stars Shobana (of Mitr, My Friend fame). Rook who has a knack for adaptations previously directed Khushwant Singh’s Train To Pakistan. She earlier turned down an offer with MGM since she believed that good and meaningful roles were what she wanted to portray.

While writing this, Anoushka was in London, preparing for a tribute show to George Harrison, which kick starts on November 29. She is all set to conduct a 50-member orchestra, which will play one of her father’s compositions. This show, which is scheduled to take place at the Royal Albert Hall, will feature Eric Clapton and Olivia Harrison. Artistes like Paul McCartney, Joe Brown, Jim Keltner, Tom Petty and Leon Russell will also perform.

Anoushka will be conducting the show for a 15-minute composition. Since she had been touring along with her father, she memorized the composition while flying with him. Speaking about Harrison, she feels that he was like an uncle for her (he was also one of her father’s disciples) and this enabled her to interact with him as a person and not as a celebrity. He was also very protective towards her, she reminisces.
