Meera Controversy- To be or Not to be ?
The influence of Media on the Pakistani Culture has been immense for the past few decades. There has been commendable progress in the field of media and someday, these changes will undoubtedly revolutionize all the aspects that we as a society or as a media industry have been lagging behind in. Overlooking the amount of sensationalism that prevails in this day and age, we still stand by the fact that our media has never really tried to slander the reputation of a woman, but what can one do when a lady as ‘dignified’ as Miss Meera is completely bent on making a laughingstock out of herself?
The news channels were flooding over with interviews, inboxes with picture emails, TV shows with parodies, and YouTube with unreleased video footages that left everyone with laughter outbursts, taking away the left over traces of respect that Pakistanis had for their film stars. It is not merely about one person, it’s about the jolt that has compelled people to believe that maybe all these celebrities are living dual lives and faking it on screen.
It all started with Mr. Atiq Ur Rehman making his first entry on news channels, claiming to be Miss Meera’s husband and putting his property issues forward. This was deemed as a gimmick by the actress, who went on denying all evidences, ranging from the Nikah naama, to the Honeymoon photographs, emails, recorded telephone calls, so on and so forth. Further, she held a reputed Indian Director responsible for being the mastermind behind this plan.
It all ended in smoke since everyone could see how disoriented she was (Even with those classy shades that she constantly wore to avoid any eye contact–quite a hint!). There were interviews where her confusion got the better of her and she said hilarious things like Court ka “motor” instead of Court ka “matter” and the list of goof ups goes on.
Heartiest thanks to her reverent “Mahesh Jee” who convinced her into telling the truth and facing the consequences.
This entire scandal has left us as baffled as Meera- Should we be glad that this episode is over or be upset over the fact that there shall be no more controversies to discuss?
