MTV: Speaking out for AIDS victims
The MTV Music Summit for AIDS was organized in Mumbai. It aims at creating awareness and spreading knowledge about the deadly virus. Cyrus Broacha, MTV’s Ambassador for AIDS Awareness and popular VJ stressed upon the fact that the first step to make people aware was to tell them about ways to prevent the spread of the HIV virus.
AIDS victims, he said, were also normal and should not be abandoned by family and friends. The crowd was treated to a music feat by artistes like Euphoria, Alisha Chinoy, SilkRoute and Shaan. Shweta Shetty felt that when the youngsters came and saw stars talking about the prevention of AIDS, they would in turn go and talk about it in their home. This in turn would spread the message to more and more people.
Vasundhara Das, the lovely singer from Bangalore, opined that even if people only came to see their favorite stars perform, they would also get the message about the virus since artistes spoke about the disease during the middle of the concert.
It is heartening to see that channels like MTV, which have a huge young following, are taking pains to spread awareness about AIDS. In the long run, this will make a great difference to the way people treat AIDS victims and ensure that the spread of the virus is also minimized.
