Hair is coated with a layer of sebum a natural oil produced by sebaceous gland lying next to each hair follicle in the scalp.
The sebum gives the hair its shine and also protects it from losing its own moisture content. The amount of oil secreted by the sebaceous glands determine whether the hair is dry, greasy or normal.
At the same time use of harsh shampoo, or dry windy weather can strip the natural oils from the scalp and hair leaving it dull and dry.

Shampoo Shopping Smarts:
Look for a shampoo that is mild so your hair will be cleansed without being stripped of its natural moisture. A gentle shampoo is one with a low pH (6.8 or less) that is formulated for daily use. Key shampoos to look for are those designed for chemically processed or color-treated hair as they aren’t made with abrasive ingredients and won’t drab down color.

Letting your short hair grow out will often give you some awkward stages to get through but there are several ways to glide through the rough spots. Whether you’re growing it out for a longer, overall length or just to get rid of layers, there’s still maintenance involved.
Of course, the oldest hair is on the ends and the longer your hair is, the more care it will need to keep it shiny and healthy. When growing out their hair, many people want to do it in the quickest manner possible, and that is, not cutting their hair at all. This is far from ideal and leads to breaking and splitting.

Curly hair is sometimes thought to be coarse and given to unruliness. While those with straight hair styles envy the curls, those who sport the corkscrew tresses forever wish for the flat, long styles. Those with long curly hair in particular seem to have their work cut out for them since so many hairstyles require a lot of work to just hold and keep in shape.
