Ramadan Kareem

October 3rd, 2007

‘Have u seen the moon yet??’, ‘Is Ramadan going to start tomorrow??’ seems to be on everyone’s lips as the evening before the first day of fasting wears on. Excitement hangs in the air. Somehow, Ramadan always seems like a magical month. As a child growing up in the middle east -being awakened in the wee hours of the morning, hearing a multitude of masjids call one for prayer and sitting and listening to my parents as they narrate incidents from the Holy Quran on charity, self-restraint, and repentance has always been special.

Men are better than women

August 11th, 2005

I am a person of limited intelligence , but even some one who’s not as bright as I am can see that men are definitely better then women. Being a deeply religious person I keep thinking of the fact that Muhammad (May peace be upon him) was a man. In fact, all the prophets were men. Why did God, so infinite in his mercy, wisdom, and greatness did not ever think of making women a prophet. Is it because men are better human beings? From a woman’s point of view there are things that bother me about the female sex. For instance one thing that I’ve come across time and time again is that women always take care on men but they rarely take care of other women. To women a man will be of utmost, importance whether it is her son, husband, boyfriend or brother. She will always favor the guy to the girl, ironic isn’t it? There are very few women in this world who actually care about other women. Men on the other hand are more sensitive towards women, maybe that’s what makes women gravitate towards them. Men have a sense of brotherhood which deserves respect, but women don’t know the meaning of that word. It is true that men often cheat on women and make them miserable but on the whole I feel that a man’s heart is much bigger than that of a woman. Most women are vain, petty and will stoop to any level to make sure that the woman next to her does not succeed.

The Waleemah in Islam

October 19th, 2004

The waleemah is a food reception which follows the consummation of marriage, to make the marriage public. It is offered by the parents of the married couple, by their friends, or by the newly married couple themselves. Friends, relatives, and neighbors are usually invited.

The companion Anas reported that the Prophet SAW saw a trace of yellow on Abd Ar- Rahman Ibn Auf, and asked what is this? He answered: “I got married”. Then, the Prophet SAW said,

“May Allah make it a blessing for you. Have a waleemah, even with only a sheep.” [Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmizi, Abu Dawood and Maalik]

JJ’s Swan Song

July 20th, 2003

When Tausiq Haider, compere, stepped on stage to announce the next entry for the Maadr-e-Millat Train Launching ceremony, held on Independence Day, no body expected the news he was giving. Junaid Jamshed, sporting an ever growing beard, was going to perform for the last time onstage in Pakistan.

“Not that again’’ cried some of his friends backstage after Tausiq broke the news. After all hadn’t he bid adieu to singing early last year and then reverted the decision? What is the man up to ruining his career like that?

The Last time on stage..so he says.
