Sara Raza Khan, a Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2009 participant from Lahore, has laid down some ground rules for the producers of the show. She has said that she will participate in the show only if she isn’t asked to wear revealing outfits. Also Pakistani contestant refuses to say ‘Har har Mahadev’ or wear sleeveless dresses on music reality show. Sara confirms the news and says, “Ammijaan was a nervous wreck and was not very keen to send me to Mumbai, particularly because of the kind of clothes the women need to wear in front of the camera.”

India is fast becoming a hot-spot for international artists, and our very own band Jal seems to have climbed the bandwagon. The lip gloss sporting boys are now headed to Agra to shoot their next music video. Well, we know there’s nothing new in that piece of info but guess where the video is meant to be shot… the Taj Mahal! That’s right one of the wonder of the new world will be a setting for a song from their album. The lads said that the romantic monument is an ideal location for their shoot, and are overwhelmed by the response given to them there. Hmmm… looks like we can all look forward to yet another soulful number from Jal, who first took us and all of India by storm with their hit, ”Woh Lamhey”. There is yet to be any word on the name of the song. We’re looking forward to it and hopefully the new video will live up to the hoopla.

Just as the controversies and spurs caused by his first film began to lose their fizzle a new buzz started going around in both the Lollywood and Bollywood circuits about Shoaib Mansoor’s new film. News had it that the big wig had finalised plans for a follow up to ‘Khuda Kay Liye’, and supposedly has Shaan as the main lead. Well, a little bird has told us that the ‘follow-up’ of the colossal hit ”Khuda Kay Liye’ is not going to kick off any time soon. The idea was proclaimed ludicrous by the director himself who said it he was still in the middle of considering different ideas and projects and hasn’t finalised a thing! He also laughed off the idea that Shaan would be part of his next project if any. Hmmm… seems like the superstar did not give Shoaib an easy time on the sets of KKL. Could it be it’s because he did so little to support the film’s rocky progression after its release? So who will it be? Maybe some of the Indian talent is about to cross the border. Well, as far as Shoaib Mansoor’s next film is concerned, keep your fingers crossed for something amazing, we can expect no less!

Which brand is the largest selling cosmetic cream in the world?? Answers anyone? Nivea? Wrong! Oil of ulay? Wrong again…hah! The right answer is…(drums rolling)…FAIR AND LOVELY skin lightning cream! (gasps and screams)..shocking isn’t it? I always thought that this might only be true for good old Pakistan or generally Asia -but if statistics are to be believed (you can occasionally trust them), then fair and lovely rules !And it’s sold mainly-if not solely in Asia.

The saas-bahu serials from India have led to a craze for saris in Pakistan and traders say the obsession has become so big that women there have named the saris after the characters of the popular serials.
Thus you have Kumkum saris, Ramola, Tulsi and Parvati saris and anyone visiting India is told to get them, says Arshad Ali Khan, a trader from Karachi.
“Till a few years back, there were not many takers for saris in Pakistan but suddenly you see women all around wearing saris, even at parties and social gatherings,” says Khan.

It was raining since morning. I had walked home from school drenched and, having eaten my lunch, was lying on the charpoy under the thatched roof of our railway quarter in Tiger Pass, Chittagong. I loved the rain. The man at the small tea house in Deevan Haat across the railway tracks put the record on his gramophone and K.L. Saigol’s voice drifted in with the rain -
“Aye katib-e-taqdir mujhe itna bata de, keon mujh se khafa hai tu, kya maene kia hai.” A strange sensation - was it eleation, or sadness - came over me. In the three minutes the song was over. I felt lost and overwhelmed and was not interested in the next song. So I went out and walked in the rain.

The Jami we know from various commercials and videos is broody, elusive and has some phenomenal projects to his credit, like Pal Do Pal, Chaye Chaye, Ankhiyan, Chal Dil Mere, Dhanni, Anjaane and many more. The Jami we don’t know is the man, who likes to speak up his mind, digs movies, is laid back. We take a peek on the other side of this director’s fence.
How does it feel to be known as the best video director in Pakistan?
I’m trying to enjoy it. Because when you’re at the top, people want you to fall down, which is why I get scared of being called that. But honestly speaking, we are not doing that well. Abroad, there are so many good short films being made by the kids. We’re doing commercials to run the kitchen, making music videos, and we try to balance both, which is why we try not to sell our souls in music videos. We should do justice to the song. In commercials, the clients will listen to you to an extent. Like in the Indigo commercials, they’ve given a very free rein, but you know that you have to sell something.
